Get the Springpad Clipper

Posted on 28th February, by katin in Using Springpad. 181 Comments

9/16/11 UPDATE: We’ve released an update to the Springpad Clipper!
The update is automatic for existing clipper users.

The Springpad Clipper allows you to quickly add things to Springpad while you surf the web. Just install the Spring It! button in your browser bar and you’ll be able to save anything to Springpad without leaving the web page that you’re currently viewing. Save an article you want to read later or something more specific like a product, recipe or restaurant.

Get the Clipper:
Spring it!
How to install it:
- In Firefox, Safari, or Chrome: Drag above button to your browser’s Bookmarks Toolbar
- In Internet Explorer 8+: Right click on the “Spring It!” button above and select “Add to Favorites”, then in the “Create in” drop down menu select “Favorites Bar”.

Having trouble dragging the bookmark into Chrome? Try opening this post in another browser and dragging the bookmark there, then drag the bookmark from that browser to Chrome.

wont stop ‘saving” and cant get clipper to go to firefox/yahoo toolbar

  2. jairit says:

Can’t move the Clipper button to either Chrome, Firefox or Safari. Simply doesn’t work.

  3. Darryl says:

It would be good to also include the link to clipper in the post. The whole link so I can copy and paste it into a new bookmark I create. Especially on my iPhone as I don’t have a toolbar. This way I can also add the link to my bookmarks where i want. I would like to clip bookmarks on my iPhone as I did with Evernote.

  4. Darryl says:

Here’s the link I was talking about that I used to create a SpringIt bookmark in Safari on my iPhone. It allows me to do the same as the clipper button in a regular browser on my PC. For those wanting to clipp something from their iPhone browser (or any mobile browser for that matter).

Just copy and paste the link below into an existing bookmark then change the name to SpringIt. The iPhone doesn’t allow you to just create a new bookmark from scratch, hence changing an existing bookmark. Unless I’m mistaken.

    javascript:(function(){SP_HOST=’http://springpadit.com’;try{var%20x=document.createElement(‘SCRIPT’);x.type=’text/javascript’;x.src=SP_HOST+’/public/clipper_inline.js?’+(new%20Date().getTime()/100000);document.getElementsByTagName(‘head’)[0].appendChild(x);}catch(e){location.href=SP_HOST+’/clip.action?url=’+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+’&title=’+encodeURIComponent(document.title);}})();

  5. katin says:

Hey Darryl – Pretty cool, thanks!

  6. spinnermonkey says:

I followed Darryl’s instructions to the letter. Took an existing bookmark, changed the name, copy and pasted the link. It doesn’t work. What am I doing wrong?

  7. mk says:

Can’t drag the bookmarklet into the bar in Chrome. I get the plus sign, but it doesn’t work after that.

  8. tommca says:

Can’t drag the bookmarklet into the Chrome link bar. As with others, I get the plus sign but the bookmarklet doesn’t take. Is there a fix I’m not aware of?

  9. Alexandre says:

Same here. I can’t drag can’t get the clipper to be saved on my bookmark bar. I’m using chrome for Mac.

  10. Dawn King says:

Yeah, it’s not working with Chrome for me either. Bummer.

  11. Eric says:

The javascript window is being blocked by the popup blockers (for FireFox and Chrome).

    Chome:
Click ‘Options’, ‘Under the Hood’ tab, ‘Content settings’, ‘Popups’
Enter ‘springpadit.com’ as allowed to popup window

    FireFox:
Tools > Options > Content > ‘Block popups’ [Exceptions] and add ‘springpadit.com’

  12. Mike says:

I am trying to attach clipppad to my IE 7. Followed instruction to unlock Toolbar and stuck. I don’t know why I can’t understand instruction from there. ” link “?

  13. Kelly says:

Tried adding to popup exceptions in chrome for mac. Even turned off chrome pop up blocker. Clipper button still does not attach to chrome bookmark bar. Get plus sign like everyone else but button does not stay. Using latest build of chrome.

  14. katin says:

If you’re having trouble with the clipper, please send me a note with your username to katin@springpartners.com. Also include your browser & version, PC/Mac, and a brief description of the problem.

  15. katin says:

Hey All – it looks like there is a bug in Chrome that will prevent you from adding the clipper. You can read about it here: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=12290

Here’s the workaround: Add the clipper to Firefox, then drag it to Chrome. We’ll keep the status updated on our support forum: http://getsatisfaction.com/springpartners/topics/issue_adding_springpad_clipper_to_chrome

  16. Michael says:

    Hi Darryl,

Your code doesn’t seem to work on the ipad. any modifications we could try?

  17. Lesa McMahon says:

None of the clippers that I’ve dragged to my toolbar work. bummer. i was so looking forward to blogging about your product.

    • lsleeper says:

Hi Lesa! Are you using Chrome? See the work-around in Katin’s comment above if you are. I also sent you an email, so if it’s another issue we’ll get it figured out for you!

  18. I have folders loaded with Microsoft Word Documents on my PC. My main purpose of an online organzizer is to access those word documents, but the documents cannot be cannot be opened. Furthermore, it would be nice to upload the folders (containing the documents) rather than upload each document at a time (I may have around 500 Microsoft Word documents). The calender and lists are very helpful, but I need to access my documents online.

In summary, can is Springpad compatible with Microsoft Word and is there a way I can upload folders at a time rather than individual documents?

I will greatly appreciate your reply.

  19. B Kellner says:

    Hi,

I am just trying out SpringPad, but experience a problem with the clipper.

My workflow is that I like to save full pages of a specific site to read it later. In Evernote I just save the page and everything from the page will be in the note.

Now – if I understand this correctly, I can either save the URL only by choosing “Spring It!” without highlightning any text, but if I want to save all text I have to hightlight everuthing? Not a very good worklow.. :(

Also – when doing this I find that only parts of the webpage enters my SpringPad note? In my last 10 tests about 40-50% of each homepage is stored in my note.. What am I doing wrong?

  20. katin says:

    Hey B -

Yes, you are right that to save web page content into a bookmark, you need to highlight the content you want saved before hitting “Spring it!” Sorry that this isn’t ideal for you.

When you say that you’re having trouble with all of the content not saving, is that content that you are, in fact, highlighting? If so, can you send me some examples websites with the content that’s not getting saved? katin@springpartners.com

  21. B Kellner says:

Thanks for the reply.. Will send you screen dump right away..

  22. Ronin says:

Hey – I just checked.. this works well with IE8 and Firefox 3.6, but it does not work with Firefox 4 Beta builds (also known as Minefield)… you can find them here…

    http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=23

  23. Paul West says:

This looks great – if only I could install and run it !!

Why not create a downloadable file that installs all this stuff for you in the Link Bar and things – I am gonna have to wait until you do as I am totally confused by your attempts at instructions ………. Oh Well

  24. Dan says:

Like others I still can’t get the entire URL Darryl offered pasted so no clipper for safari using iPad. Further ideas?

  25. Justin says:

It still won’t attach to the bar in Firefox

  26. Gosia says:

Attached to toolbar with no problem. When clicking “Save this product” it’s asking me to log in. I do but it keeps asking me… The login doesn’t work. I log in to the springpag account ON the website with no problem. What am I doing wrong? I’m using the latest version of Firefox.

  27. katin says:

If you have trouble installing the clipper in your browser, please send me a note with the following info:
    – your username
    – your browser & version (please try on multiple if possible)
    – PC or Mac
    – a description of what’s happening, including the url you are trying & whether you’ve ever had the clipper work for you

  28. Anna says:

Can put clipper button on safari on my iPad. Suggestions?

  29. mike says:

I have the same problem as Gosia. Dragged to toolbar, click, asks to authenticate and never get past that box. Firefox 3.6.6 on Windows 7

  30. Dan says:

Number 29, same for others. I cannot drag button either.

  31. Martin says:

I am trying out springpad. I want tto use it principally to quickly save web content to my iPad to read later and sometimes keep and organise.
But how exactly can i install the webclipper into safari on the ipad ?
I have read the earlier posts and it seems that other people are having the same problem. Semms strange that such an important part of the software seems broken.
It makes me wonder if this software is really ready to be trusted with important stuff yet.

I also agree with the other guy about saving web content. You shouldnt have to manually select the part you want to save.. Little unecessary time wasting things like this become so tedious ovr time that the frustration they engender can be a deal breaker. The default should be that it saves the whoe page unless you DO choose to select just a part. I can.t imagine why anyone would PREFER to have to seleçt all the content each time ???? It seems that it hasnt been thought through very well.

It is a shame because the interface is clean and simple and this really would be a very, very useful program if these problems were adressed. Hope they can get it together soon.

    • katin says:

Key Martin – iPad’s Safari does not allow the type of scripting that out clipper uses… We are looking into another option for this now!

  32. Melissa says:

I would like to be able to save pictures, but when I click the Spring It button, none of the information pulls into it. I have highlighted just the picture and another time just the text to see if it would pull. All it says is URL [object]\\ Help?

  33. Anna says:

Took photos of product info for reference (with my iPhone), and created new list to contain them. However, both photos went into ‘Wine’ as well as new list. When I deleted the photos from Wine (using the PC), they also disappeared from new list and were no longer on my phone either. How can I move or remove items from the wrong list, without deleting them totally? Also, is it possible to make a backup on the PC, so you don’t have to recreate an item if you lose it?

  34. Stephen says:

How do you delete something you put on?.

  39. Mike says:

Figured it out! Finally discovered that what you are calling the “link bar” is actually the “bookmark”s bar in Firefox. A bar that I don’t use and don’t like to have viewable as a rule. I was hoping it was like the add on from Evernote.

  40. Susan says:

How do I do this in IE8? Thanks!

  41. Angl says:

Ok so I have an iPhone 3G does this app work or is it just a waste of memory? Sorry to be so frank but I want to get this straight smyle. I need steps spelled out sweet precise and easy so I can follow through on them. Can you help? Your product sounds just like what I want and need. Thank you

  42. Kim says:

Thanks, Mike (44)… Your tip that the “link bar” is the “bookmarks” bar in Firefox got it to work for me!

  43. oceanaut says:

When using the clipper to spring a bookmark, a screendump of the page is sometimes attached to the spring as media. This is a very nice feature, but it only works occasionally. Am I doing something wrong, or is it a feature of the homepage in question? Example: lastpass.com.

  44. GFS says:

    Katin,
I have compared Darryl’s code to the button code provided. In the button code url section there is “my.” as in http://my.spingpadit.com…. that is not present in Darryl’s code or Kirk’s code which I have not compared as thoroughly as Darryl’s, however they appear to be the same. At any rate when I drug the button to Firefox bookmark toolbar it would open a spring it window but would not copy anything or give me any options. After removing the “my.” from the code it now works rather well. I am only just beginning to use this app. and I hope it to be a worthy project. I look forward to further updates.

I have the new iPod touch and can’t drag the button up to safari how do I do this

  46. Sally says:

I added the clipper to Chrome Bookmarks bar then deleted because I thought I needed the Chrome extension. Now I want the clipper again and I can’t add it at all. Have tried all the workarounds and no luck. Any help gratefully appreciated!

  47. Kimberly says:

@Sally RT: Chrome and Spring It in your toolbar. You’ll have to uninstall Chrome and reinstall it making sure to do a clean install.

  48. Sandy says:

I’m not able to install the clipper on my computer browser toolbar or my iPhone bookmarks.

  49. Chris says:

Though spring it would be a great way to add ideas to a christmas list I created for my son. However don’t see a way to spring it items to a list.
Am I missing something? Is there a way to do this?

  50. Russell says:

My Springpad was working great, then I was told to upgrade. Now it will not let me log in? Why should I log in to my own phone? No, I want something at my finger tips when I need it, not something I have to log in to. Now it says my email addresses are not known????? It told me to log onto this site and click on settings? There is no place to click onto settings????? I am just going to lose my vital information I had stored on my springpad, delete it and find me something better that I will not have to log onto on my own phone.

  51. Albert. says:

    WHY ???

Maybe this is not the right place to post this.. but anyway.. Why there is no SPRINGPAD APP for desktop ??? this is a great app that you can have in your movile and work offline, but what about also for ur desktop to work offline ???

    Thanks,.

  52. Karen says:

When I use the clipper to bookmark a webpage item, I then can’t see the board any more. Can someone tell me how to go back to the board view. The icon has disappeared from the lefthand panel.
    thanks

  53. I was having issues getting it to load to Chrome as well (at least on my MAC – no issues on PC).

    Here is an easy workaround:
    1. Create a new bookmark in Chrome
    2. Edit it and include the javascript below as the URL

    javascript:(function(){SP_HOST=’http://my.springpadit.com’;try{var%20x=document.createElement(‘SCRIPT’);x.type=’text/javascript’;x.src=SP_HOST+’/public/clipper_inline.js?’+(new%20Date().getTime()/100000);document.getElementsByTagName(‘head’)[0].appendChild(x);}catch(e){location.href=SP_HOST+’/clip.action?url=’+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+’&title=’+encodeURIComponent(document.title);}})();

    That should fix you up.

    Cheers!

    • brittni says:

If you are having trouble putting the clipper into your browser try this: Create a new bookmark in your bookmarks bar and title it however you’d like (we call ours Spring It!)

Then paste this entire thing into the URL field (make sure javascript is enabled in your browser) If you’re still having trouble please email brittni@springpartners.com

      javascript:(function()%7BSP_HOST=’http://my.springpadit.com’;try%7Bvar%20x=document.createElement(‘SCRIPT’);x.type=’text/javascript’;x.src=SP_HOST+’/public/clipper_inline.js?’+(new%20Date().getTime()/100000);document.getElementsByTagName(‘head’)%5B0%5D.appendChild(x);%7Dcatch(e)%7Blocation.href=SP_HOST+’/clip.action?url=’+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+’&title=’+encodeURIComponent(document.title);%7D%7D)();

Why make it so difficult to find the link to add the clipper, would be nice to have it on the home page once the user sign in, perhaps right below the “Import Delicious Bookmarks”.

  76. Julei says:

Oh my wow, I just found the coolest way to add it. I have the auto hide sam find bar for firefox, which i really love. I added the link info to create a new link and Voilà , it’s at the bottom. I just click on the spring pad and it pops right up. I do it this way because I hate having my bookmark tool bar out, it just takes up real estate on my browser.
Thanks spring pad, and spring pad you should contact samfind. Well, if you want to because it’s two nice apps together running smooth as can be.

    • brittni says:

Matt – you should be able to copy text and images and clip them as bookmarks. Also, the Chrome Extension will use a screenshot of the clipped page as a thumbnail if you’d like to try that.

Daniel – Sorry, the clipper doesn’t work for Android. Try using the share feature on your Android browser to share pages to Springpad.

  81. Matt says:

Thanks for the reply Brittni but it still won’t work for certain things. For instance, try this color pallet and its divided swatches. http://www.colourlovers.com/palette/1442167/Fort_Vimieux_APC

It leaves the individual swatches behind and then crunches up some of the text.

  84. Omar says:

The clipper is great however, for me, the clipper & the chrome extension (on chrome) seem to only bookmark/clip the page (won’t recognize recipes, items, etc). The clipper in firefox works like a charm.
    Thanks !

  85. Luka says:

    Hi,
When a clip widget for firefox will be available, just like the one that is for chrome?

  86. Damien says:

@Omar – I find the clipper wants to save everything as a bookmark but if you choose the exact type you want from the “Choose something else” choices, it usually picks up the right info e.g. recipes get the ingredients (but strangely not the directions – is that a known limitation Katin?)

Also I’m not a developer and so don’t know the finer points, but it would be great if the Chrome extension could also include the clipper so everything Springpad is in one place instead of taking up space next to my address bar and bookmark toolbar.

  87. Sally says:

Springpadit looks very use-able and I wanted to transfer from Evernote, which I’ve been using for a month now, but the clipping button is of no use to me as I don’t use bookmarks at all and don’t have a bookmarking toolbar – even if I did, there would be too many steps, too many clicks to clip something. Evernote is much more direct, though there are things that aren’t so good, like finding notes, where it doesn’t find tags, but words within the text. Also, it seems that Springpadit is only available as a webpage and Evernote is both online and a separate application, independent of my browser – but it also syncs constantly with both computers and the webpage. If Springpadit had an easy clipper button and was a freestanding application, I would very likely change over…Any likelihood of these developments?

  88. kikejulia says:

For me, it would be a great improvement that you could click on the clipper button in Firefox, and then have a checkbox to decide whether you want to bookmark the page, o to capture the whole page.

Having to select all the page prior to clicking the clipper button if you want to capture the whole page is a little bit time consuming.

Otherwise, I’m quite happy with Springpad.

  89. Perry says:

Newbie here, but your SpringPad is so easy to use and so useful, I’ve enjoyed almost all the good features and functions. No problem getting the Android version, Chrome extension, and even tried auto email notes saving. Great Work!… Except this Springpad Clipper. From the introduction, it sounds great and that’s what I’m looking for. But I just cannot make it work! I’m puzzled why this important good feature does not have the same descriptive and easy-to-follow instructions like the other features???
Anyway, I tried to install this clipper button to my Chrome. Failed and just don’t know how and where to bring the button up while browsing the Internet. Please advise!

How do I put the clipper on my Google Chrome page on my iPad2?

    • brittni says:

Susan – a user has modified the clipper to work for the iPad Safari browser http://blog.springpadit.com/2010/07/springpad-clipper-for-ipad/
Otherwise it only works for computer browsers.

Perry – this clipper works just like the clipper in the Chrome Extension that you already use, except you put it in your bookmarks bar. When you’re on a web page that you want to save to Springpad, you click the bookmark clipper.
To put it in your bookmarks bar follow the instructions above.

I’m having some trouble getting the Spring It Clipper added to my Google Chrome browser under Ubuntu 11. I’ve tried using Firefox and then dragging the CLipper icon to CHrome like you mentioned but that doesn’t work either. I’m hoping to use Spring Pad as a way of storing notes that are independent of OS so I can go back and forth between Ubuntu and Windows. THis is an awesome plugin … hope you can make it work for Ubuntu as well … Ubuntu is a real OS!

  96. fourplay says:

I can’t get clipper to work in IE9 – I have it on the Favorites Bar but when I click on it, nothing happens (I don’t get the window illustrated above). Is there a step I am missing?

  98. Mary says:

Hope Mozilla will let you put the extension back on. It was very handy to have the icon on my toolbar instead of having to open bookmarks!

  99. Fedor says:

Hi! Could you please help me to save a whole page to springpad. Like I did with Instapaper or Evernote web-clipper. All I could manage at this point is to save a “smart bookmark” (link+small description) to my springpad notebook. But I need a whole article to read it later offline on my smartphone… How could I manage this?

  100. Sacha says:

It works pretty well except the icon doesn’t show, just a blank icon (while the springpadit.com URL has the nice yellow icon), and sometimes it even pops up a blank unusable springpad window instead of the usual window where you can edit the bookmark…

I do recommend however using the extension, which makes bookmarking and using Springpad such a pleasant experience…! Kudos for this wonderful application!

  101. Robert says:

Does the web clipper now work with Opera? I tried dragging the icon to the toolbar and the icon is now just a little white page. For a minute it looked like the clipping was working but then not.

  102. Kwee Lewis says:

I am using IE9 and the clipper is not working for me either. It did fine until 8 updated to 9. When I click on it, nothing happens.

  103. Sacha says:

I find the clipper too slow for bookmarking. There should be another quick way to add a bookmark, without the fancy stuff. Just one plain simple window where you can enter all the details. Now if I want to just add stars to a bookmark or some other details not available in the clipper I need to first get the clipper to show up, enter data, then click to view it in Springpad. I believe what takes the clipper time is analyzing the page, which is not always needed, esp. if it slow down the whole thing…

  104. Brian says:

I cannot get clipper to run in IE9. Have removed and reinstalled.

  108. Diggy says:

Guys I think the Clipper may be broken. For the past few days now when I’ve tried to spring a page I’ve had a Java error: “Springpad can only clip web pages”. It worked perfectly before on the same websites.

I removed the clipper from Chrome and just tried to reinstall it using the button above but it won’t stick to my bookmarks bar. On no, I’ve lost the ability to Spring stuff!

I’m using the latest Chrome version 13.0.782.220 on Windows XP if that helps.

    Cheers

Why is it when I try to drag the “Spring It! Clipper,” to the top of my Chrome browser, it doesn’t install? I’m new to Chrome, but it hasn’t been difficult. What am I doing wrong?

    • katin says:

Scott – Some versions of Chrome do prevent the clipper from being installed. Try this:

Having trouble dragging the bookmark into Chrome? Try opening this post in another browser and dragging the bookmark there, then drag the bookmark from that browser to Chrome.

  110. Cindy Olsen says:

ARRRRR – following the instructions – new browser and dragging to google chrome Doe not work – now I have NO CLIPPER ARRRRRRRRRRRRR

  111. Cindy Olsen says:

Thanks I got the old extension back – still can’t install the “new” Chrome on my pc . . but the re-added extension shows all my notebooks now, but not the new version above

  112. Cindy Olsen says:

When dragging the new clipper from a new browser to another chrome browser the “not” sign shows . . I must be dense

  113. Diggy says:

Cindy, instead of installing another browser in order to get the clipper into Chrome it’s easier to create a new blank bookmark in the bookmark bar, give it a name, such as Spring it, then copy this into the url field of the new bookmark:

    javascript:(function(){SP_HOST=’http://my.springpadit.com’;try{var x=document.createElement(‘SCRIPT’);x.type=’text/javascript’;x.src=SP_HOST+’/public/clipper_inline.js?’+(new Date().getTime()/100000);document.getElementsByTagName(‘head’)[0].appendChild(x);}catch(e){location.href=SP_HOST+’/clip.action?url=’+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+’&title=’+encodeURIComponent(document.title);}})();

By the way, thanks guys, the new updated clipper is now working for me :-)

  114. Cindy Olsen says:

Thanks Diggy. I guess this is beyond me. I didn’t install another browser. I reinstalled the springpad EXTENSION. Perhaps this is the part I am not understanding. Bookmarks are not extensions as I understand. My old clipper extension – works the old way and did not “update” itself as other blog comments said it would . .thanks for trying to be helpful!

  115. Cindy Olsen says:

I finally got the bookmark to work after viewing the source and recopying the code.

It would be cleaner to do this with the one click extension instead of a bookmark, however.
    Thanks!

  116. jcc says:

Just used Spring It! for the first time in a few weeks. I was trying to add a recipe to my springpad. Unfortunately the interface has changed making it impossible to get it right without going back to springpad and editting the recipe manually, plus no option to add media. Change it back, it worked fine before this change.

  117. Fook says:

I can’t get this to work in Chrome either. Dragging the button to the bookmarks bar does nothing at all (it doesn’t add it to the bar at all). I tried Diggy’s suggestion and added a bookmark with that URL, but clicking on that link doesn’t do anything for me :(

  118. Fook says:

Correction, followed what Cindy said and got the URL from the source, and it worked, yay!

  121. Yvette says:

Why is it that the little spring it box to bookmark a page is not on every page? How do u bookmark it to springpad if the box is not there? I am using a iphone4. Thanks for any help!

  122. Paul says:

Springpad looks like a great idea. But since the extension won’t work at all for me in Firefox 7 and there is no obvious way to have the clipper button displayed in teh browser window, or to use a simple right-click feature, it seems unusable in a practical sense. Shame. Nice idea but apparently poor execution. If you can’t click and save in a simple manner then it’s not for me. I will have to look elsewhere for an alternative.

  123. Paul says:

Maybe I spoke too soon. After several failed attempts to install the extension in Firefox 7.0.1 it finally worked. Tbh I’m not sure what I did differently. Anyhow it’s working on two pcs and on my android phone now. I look forward to trying it out.

  124. Antonio says:

Sorry, but without automatic tagging like Diigo or Delicious I have no enough reason to use this bookmarklet.

  125. Jennifer says:

What about Android devices?? This app is becoming more and more useless for my Android tablet without a clipper!

  126. Ned says:

Good concept but a pain to use in IE8. Everytime I click on the Springpad Clipper, I get a popup warning. Sorry, but no way I’m going to disable popup blockers.

Also, every time I go to the app on my iPhone 4, it takes forever to load up. It seems that even though it’s running, you go through the full startup and login process. If I just ran the app, it should load much faster the second time.

Again, great concept but not very user friendly.

  127. Peke Lahtinen says:

I would like to see the SpringIt button in the Navigation Bar (next to the SpringPad button), NOT separately in the Bookmarks Bar. Firefox 7.0.1.

  128. David says:

Is this the same as the “Spring It!” icon on the Favorites bar? If so, I don’t understand how it works. I found an article, highlighted a part I want to keep and clicked the icon. My browser went to the SpringPad page but nothing new was there.

  135. Ed Rasimus says:

Frustrating to see months old comments that “Spring It!” bookmarklet doesn’t work or only works intermittently in IE 8 and it still hasn’t been fixed to work with IE 9 because it runs afoul of popup blocker. I love Chrome, but I’ve got to work in IE at times and if I can’t access SpringPad it becomes worthless.

    • Devin says:

Thanks for your comments Ed. You can use the SpringIt! button in IE if you disable the pop-up blocker. I know this isn’t ideal, but in the meantime, hope this helps!

  136. Teresa says:

how do you get the clipper to clip the photo and the price and the name of the store?

even after installing chrome to get the best results,
i still only get the webpage name..

    - no photo, no product name, no price, no phone number of the store that was on the webpage… just a lame url for the portal so i have to open every single d*** bookmark note and then click the link in order to see the type of product instead of seeing visual comparison of the various items on the springpad board.

how did you get the springpadit clipper to actually clip content instead of just the link (which is the same irritating behavior of evernote that was the dealbreaker that made me think I ought to try springpad to take advantage of a visual using the board… ha ha ha if i could only get the goshd*** clipper to actually clip something instead of just copy the portal site url.

    • Devin says:

Hi Teresa – The clipper tries to detect the type of content on a given site, so it can “guess” what type of thing you are going to clip. Can you give some examples of sites it’s not grabbing info from? We might be able to help improve how it grabs information from them.

  137. Karen says:

Hi, I installed “spring it” onto my bookmark bar, but when I try to use it on a website, it asks for my username/password (even though I am already logged in). When I enter my username/password, the same box reappears asking for my username/password (and does not show errors, like “wrong username” or “wrong password”). Interestingly, I am able to save a page from the springboard blog. Seems buggy.

  138. Donna says:

What am I doing wrong? This keeps happening. I find a product I want to track but when I try to clip all I get is a bookmark. The current product was a sofa on the Rooms To Go site.

    • Devin says:

Hi Donna – The clipper does not always detect the type of thing you are trying to save correctly, and it’s effectiveness depends on the site you are on. However, you should be able to change the item type before you save it to Springpad. There’s a drop down menu below the item description. Let me know if that doesn’t work! :)

  139. Donna says:

Sorry, after I posted the previous comment I realized I’d committed the cardinal rule of asking for support. I’m running Firefox 9.0.1.

  140. Julie says:

I am having the same problem as Karen. I am using Chrome 17.0.963.46 on Mac OS X 10.7.2.

Same thing, I’ve tried clipping from wordpress, other blogs or recipe sites. Help! I’ve been copy-pasting and it just really takes away from what I love about Springpad!

  141. Julie says:

Thank did the trick! Thank you Devin!

  142. Maggie says:

Is there a way to clip only a “selection” of content from gmail? If I highlight text on a regular webpage and clip it, it saves the part I highlighted in the note, but it’s not working when I try to do that with my e-mail. Right now it just links back to that e-mail, but I want to be able to delete that e-mail after I “clip” that part I want to save (without having to copy from e-mail and paste into springpad). This would be really helpful. Thanks.
