Controlling the Privacy of your Data in Springpad
Personal privacy is something we take very seriously at Springpad. We have always allowed users to control whether each individual item in their account is public or private, but now you can control the default setting of anything new that you add to Springpad.
Set up your Privacy Settings: Do this one-time step to define which types of data you would like to have Public vs. Private. Your setting will be automatically applied to anything you add to Springpad – no matter how you add it (Add to My Stuff, an App, via the Clipper, via Email, via the iPhone app, or by Springing from a friend)

After you login to Springpad, Go to Settings, then Sharing Options. Select the default Privacy setting you would like for all new items that you add to Springpad. Then hit Save.
Change the Privacy Setting of an Individual Item: If you would like to override your settings for an individual item, you can toggle between public & private.

Private/Public can be toggled anywhere you see the item, on the web or on your iPhone.
Control whether Notes, Media & Links are Private: You may want to share certain things with the Springpad community by making them public, but then find a need to add private attachments. Some examples: confirmation numbers for travel plans, receipts for purchases, notes about gift ideas.

For each note that you add to an item in Springpad, you can toggle the privacy setting of that individual note when you look at it on the web. By default, all notes added to items from the iPhone app are set to Private.
Note: Contacts cannot be made Public in Springpad.

PLEASE Consider an option on devices…even a default setting…say for certain lists, tags, or even across the board default to have items mailed…or shared with another app exclusively.
Please let me know if I’m wrong but I take it that I cannot say email something to someone I want to be private without making it public to all.
That option REALLY needs to be available.
Gonna limit all I can do with springpadit.
Thanks for the great App.
Tim
ah….didn’t see your pic up there Katin.
Sorry already made this request with you.
yeah….some of what I’d do is in addition to Group (public) postings…all individuals are sent data collected and provided feedback and recommendations etc…definitely NOT public.
thanks for patience

Hi Tim -
Duly noted!
A Direct Messaging feature just like Twiiter would really complete this otherwise superb service – any chance of seeing that?
[...] recipe that you made the last time they visited, you’ll know just where to find it. Pro Tip: Control the privacy of your notes in Springpad and only make the things that you want to share [...]
what about select group privacy? i.e. ability to show only with select group. This would really enhance the research usage of springpad.
A related issue to privacy is that of security. Katin, when can I feel safe to migrate my sensitive data to SpringPad, i.e. when will all connections between client and server be made over HTTPS?
Would really be helpful to be able to share both specific items as well as whole notebooks with someone in particular or, in some cases, with a specific group of friends or co-workers without being open to the general public… would really make springpad a useful tool.
Wow. I had no idea SpringPad existed until I saw it in the Chrome store yesterday. What an awesome app! I only very recently (as in last week) started using Evernote. This blows it out of the water for my usage.
I just wanted to add that it is missing just one feature for my usage case. I want to be able to share an entire notebook with my wife. This way we can both collaborate on all our tasks etc. Groups would be nice as well, but I only need to share with an individual for now.
On a related note, have you thought of simply having to accept a friend request and then having private / friends / public rights? Seems now that “friends stuff” as you have it implemented is very misleading. From what I can tell, friends are simply everyone who decides to look at your public profile / notebooks. This to me seems to be a bit at the root of the problem. With 1/2 million people on Facebook, it is a bit to late to try to redefine what friends means. Friends are very much NOT everyone but a specific group of people who have heightened access. Please let me know if I am missing something in the way this is implemented.
Keep up the great work!
Just wanted to add that I have been banging away in Springpad all day and I continue to be very impressed. I have been reading up in your blods as well.
Seems you have been a bit back and forth on the groups / sharing. From what I can tell you used to have the concept of members (like friends). You then simplified to private and public. I think this was a good move at the time and your concept and implementation of sharing now is much more 2010 than adding members.
Having said this, Springpad is so powerful now (and hopefully getting a lot more exposure), that it begs for collaboration among family and groups. The work arounds (and I have read them all now), are ok, but please seriously look into adding very basic collaboration (or advanced if you want
Really only need the ability to share a notebook with other members and grant all read and / or write to that notebook. That’s it! Anything else would be a bonus.
Can some give an update on where we stand with encrypting content in Springpad?
Springpad is an AWESEOME tool. It looks great and the interfact and cross platform ability is one of a kind. That said..
I will switch from Evernote once
1. Spring uses SSL over HTTPS ( sometimes store somewhat sensitive data)
2. The email to springpad feature goes somewhere OTHER than the “ALL NOTES” section. If I could specify a default notebook or group to use as an “Inbox”
Please keep up the good work. You’ll really get on the map when those to features on added. Undoubtedly.
Is there a way to save everything on my hard drive instead of on your server?
So far I’m really enjoying playing with this. Like some others, I found it in the Chrome App Store. Since the germane topic is sharing, the inability to share a notebook with one (or more) friend(s) or even to share the whole notebook privately with one person is something I wanted to echo from the posts above.
I hate it when people jump in and complain, though, since I design apps as well, so let me re-iterate how interesting it is to order things using this system. I’m try to use it to do collaborative development of my apps and brands at the notional level, so the ability to share an entire notebook – which is the container I’m using for a project or brand – makes a lot of sense for me. I would imagine this would be true for recipe books or anything, really!
Cool app, thanks a lot
I’d feel better if you’d charge something for some kind of plan, frankly, heh. That’s my ideas you’re storing in there! Probably don’t get that request a lot.
[...] if you add something in that you want to keep private Springpad allows you to do this as this blog post [...]
I’m with the others: the use of Springpad will stay limited until we can share specific items or whole notebooks. I love the way it works, but I’m still looking for another one cause I really need this option!
Springpad is very promising, but there is one specific reason why it does not work for me; the all or nothing sharing concept. One key function that is make or break for me is the ability to share items with one or more people. Other people have pointed that out in this discussion, and it’s the first question I get when I tell someone about Springpad. To me, it’s a no-brainer and I’d be willing to pay for such a function.
[...] Share on Facebook and Twitter Post your items directly to Facebook or Twitter using the Springpad iPhone app! Anything that you add to Springpad can be set to public, then shared with your friends! The first time you choose to share note via Facebook or Twitter, you will be asked to login to that service. After that, you can see your sharing options on the Settings screen. Learn more about privacy settings in Springpad. [...]
I just want to voice my opinion with others that Spring Pad is great, but I’m still searching for another solution because I cannot share Notebook ABC with Spring Pad user XYZ. i.e. I don’t want to share with the whole world, I just want to share with the user(s) John, Jeff and Jim.
Once that happens, I think SpringPad will be just about perfect. It would be nice to know some type of time frame on this functionality as it seems to be very important to many people.
I also agree there needs to be user and group shares. I would like to share items with only my family and friends.
I agree with the disappointments of most users in this thread. Just because I want to share appointments, notes, etc. doesn’t mean I want to share with the world.
Springpad is a great idea but until the privacy issue is addressed it is useless as far as I am concerned. So we can share everything we can save to our phones in nicely organized notebooks. But no control over the ‘with who’ part.
Yes some people like to blur the lines of professional and personal. There’s that exhibitionist and voyeur thrill that so many social networking enthusiasts enjoy, but even there there, people can choose their “friends”. Our personal agenda, appointments, reminders, etc. are far more private than than our comments on our friends likes and dislikes. And all you give us is a “public” or “private” toggle button!???? You can’t be serious!!!! Groups of friends can’t be that hard to figure out.
I, for example am a teacher. I’ll start using Springpad when I can share an appointment for a romantic evening with my wife without having to worry that my students are going to show up to offer their encouragements.
I know it’s been said already, but add one more voice to the “peer/group sharing” option. I love Springpad ever since I found it on the Android Market (yep, I found them in reverse order of most). Also, it’s very handy on my Cr-48 notebook.
It’s the first app of its kind that I have actively (at least for me) used for more than a week. The few limitations in the app are not enough to prevent me from exploring all of the benefits this app provides.
A use case for the person-to-person sharing: Shopping Lists for couples and families. I introduced my wife to springpad and she loves it! We would like to be able to add and read a shopping list together, so when we go to the store, we can split up and delete items from our phones.
Anyway, thanks for the work you’ve done so far.
Just found Springpad recently via the Android app store – lots of potential, still exploring the features…
However, I definately support the feature request for person-to-person sharing, or even within a defined group. I just had the exact same desired use-case of sharing shopping and packing lists (or to-do lists) with my partner – I can currently only share a read-only list via a URL, but I would really like for us both to add to the list and check-off items from the same list.
I would see it working as configuring a share-group or list of people, then enhancing the “Share” feature to allow selection of group or person from your list to share that item with.
To assure privacy I think it would be nice to have the option to define where Springpad stores the data. Some may trust Google more (I think most don’t, but anyway) and others would like to store the data in their personal cloud. I’d prefer the latter.
It would require hosting your own website (to be able to use the ‘desktop’ version), though to the ones that really want to have control over their data, I think it’s easy to overcome. Or a, true, desktop application would work, though I can imagine why Springpad wouldn’t prefer this route (platforms, still have to save data somewhere), web is fine, though intranet please, not internet.
I have a question please. I have decided that I want to share/make public all of my notes and bookmarks. Now, I already have over 500 on file. When I change the settings and go to my sharing profile, as I would direct others, only two notes that I had previously shared publicly are showing up.
So, by changing this privacy setting mid-stream, does this mean that items I have clipped prior to this change will not be made public unless I manually change them one at a time? Please say no:)
Thanks!
Craig
Thanks, Brittni! It would also be nice if folks could search your public notes and bookmarks or at least have them be available in the folders that they were assigned. I do see where you can do some of that with tags but … I was just using folders to this point and not tags so … a tagging I will now go:)
Thanks!
Craig
I was just about to get my wife signed up for Springpad after being a Springpad user myself for quite some time. My hope was to share a notebook with her to work on our home, but it seems like I’m one of many who is looking for this same feature. I’ve found a few shared checklist sites that I plan on using for now, but I would greatly appreciate it if you would offer this feature in the near future!
I don’t see any of these sharing options, or otherwise how to control sharing of individual notes as displayed on the images above, on my android tablet (Honeycomb). What am I missing?
Is there a way to set a default privacy setting for everything created in a certain notebook. Say for example I have a “Recipes” notebook and I want everything in it to be public, but not all recipes I add in other notebooks.
Also, is there a way to bulk change privacy settings for notes without having to change them 1 by 1?
Thanks for the great service/apps!!!
Hello. Using the android version. I have a question about the pin (passcode) – is there any way to also activate it on the widgets? I am asking because when I click on the widget it takes me straight to the app without asking for pin. I like the list widget where I can see my tasks but I would like for it to still ask for the pin code when clicked.
Thanks very much for an excellent app!
It would be great to be able to password protect a note. I would be more comfortable having some sensitive information in a note that would require a password to open beyond the login. This is mostly an issue for my mobile phone – If I were to lose or have my phone stolen this would prevent others from seeing that particular note. Thanks.
I am a dropbox user and evernote. I saw good things about Springpad and was very hopeful to migrate all to this resource. A deal killer is the impossible sharing option. I would like to be able to share with a person or a group, one notebook would be good but not with the world. It limits our ability to use it as a project management tool, etc. Can someone tell us when this might be available? Our group has many potential signups but sharing newly written programs without privacy would simply foster competition following our programs, ideas and rollout plans. Not workable.
Hi,
after various tests I saw that springpad is the best choice for me.
It save my data on Cloud server, is simple and quick, it mantains the formatted text (with colors, Bold etcc…), I can use folders and subfolders is Mac-Pc – Iphone, Android compatible and it looks pretty.
The only (BIG) problem is the security.
All the other note app have a password function for a note or, at least, they ask for a pw when I open the application.
I use it on mac, iphone and android devices and the only alternative are Evernote (more slow, complex and not usable offline, Onenote-Skydrive-MobileNoter (with the same problem of protection and without the saving of the text-colors formatting) and any other that don’t have appls for iphone or Android or mac-Pc…
Some of your users don’t need to comunicate with Twitter-Facebook and similar, but use notepad only for private (pw protected) notes: why you don’t add a pw potect feature? In Italy why say: if you make 30 why you don’t make 31? ;P Cheers…
I REALLY need to be able to share an entire notebook with specific people. When will this be available? Your product is perfect… but NEEDS THIS FEATURE like yesterday…
I love this application and have found it extremely useuseful
But change comes slowly to springpad!
I have complained for a long time that the password feature to protect the app is easy to get around on my android phone. If one hits the search feature you can bypass the password and go to any sensitive document in springpad. I lock my phone routinely anyway but would feel much more secure to also be able to genuinely lock the application as well.
Evernote has done thiswhy not springpad.-
Guys! This is the most awesome App I have!!!
You guys developed a rare jewel!
You should charge for this. I’m sharing with all my work friends ASAP.
Keep up the outstanding work. :>)
Kathy
Yet another request for specific sharing. It would make this almost perfect. I am determined to stick with it until you do and then I can move people over. In the meantime, I am losing my team to other services like Wunderlist, which has so many more shortcomings IMO.
Please make specific sharing a priority.
I agree with Randy, the feature to share entire books with specific persons would be very nice. Apart from that, its a very good application! Congratulations to you all!
Ferenc
Hello,
How can I share a whole notebook with only a specific person? I don’t want to turn it public, I want to control my shares.
Your suite of apps are awesome.
Would be even better if they used SSL and encryption!
I’d happily pay a small fee.
Until then, I guess I have to stick with Humyo…boo.
I agree with Russell. I’d happily pay for tighter security!
wow — just realized they don’t use SSL. They just lost all respect
Was searching for a cloud based notes solution to replace my local notes, and they are off my list now.
Springpad… USE SSL!!!!!!!!
Is there a way for me to share a folder with just one person? I would like to share info with my business partner but don’t want to make the information public.
In same regards to Amelia’s remark:
I’m an assistant and it would be awesome if I could share specific notebooks (For example, my “Work” notebook) with my boss signed in on his OWN account, not mine.
Like User 1 has notebooks:
A
B
and C
User 2 has notebooks
D
E
And shares A with User 1 (yet still remains private between the two users)
Make this happen and I’ll gladly spread springpads name like wild fire
[...] if you add something in that you want to keep private Springpad allows you to do this as this blog post [...]
Privacy and security are important issues. I just found out any file I have in springpad can be downloaded using the right link, even without being logged in. I do not like that.
Katin, in regard to Amelia’s question: She was asking about sharing a folder with just one person. I’m new to Springpad and do not know what she means by sharing a folder. However, isn’t it possible to provide an “Anyone with the link” to allow those with whom the link is share to access something on Springpad? As it stands now she wouldn’t have any way to control over whether or not the person with whom the link was shared in turn shares it with someone else. However, the likelihood of someone “stumbling” across the link is rather remote.
I would like to know if there is a place where I can make a, price list of items? Also make it so I can put them in groups. Like soups are $ then cereals are $. All in one note book is possible thanks.
While we’re on the topic of additional options. I’d like to see the following:
* On the Nook version (and possibly other mobile apps; I just downloaded for the iPod Touch) I’d like cursor keys. The touch screen is often not sensitive enough to click the exact spot where you want to edit. It’s a pain having to delete and re-enter a couple of words because your fat fingers can’t find that one spot to start editing.
* On the Nook version, font options, such as bold, underline, italics, like those available on the web version.
* A carriage return that isn’t treated like a paragraph end. You can’t currently have multi-paragraph items in a numbered or bullet list. Each paragraph becomes another numbered line or a new bullet.
* This may not be possible but a cut and paste option on the Nook version would be awesome.
Hey Springpad,
What a great tool to collaborate for trips, meal planning for the week, household chores, etc! Please add a “sharing” ability beyond seeing and copying into your own notebook. Let two (or more) people collaborate on an item or notebook, please! If this is something in the works, is it possible to be put on a notification list?
Thanks!
A VERY important feature of private notesbooks for me is https communications during the creation and editing of my private notes.
Private notes are NOT private if all the editing goes on though an unencrypted communications channel.
Thanks, I’m looking forward to using springpad more and would gladly pay for this type of privacy, but springpad’s usefulness is severely limited w/out it.
I use Springpad every day, from the mundane grocery list to Inspiration boards for creating art! I love the ease of use on my iPad. My only issue is that I would love to be able to prevent editting or viewing by my 3yr old by either an app pass key lock or, even better, a password (universal one) for individual notebooks! Maybe even both!
This type of feature would expand its usefulness in a large way for me. What do you guys think?
Hi Katin
We’ve talked about this since mt comment in July.
When are you scheduling this in?
Russell
I agree with some of the above comments. I currently use OnePunch as I can at least apply some security an item, but the lack of security is an issue I have with Springpad. I am going to start using it for general notes.
I’m unsure as to why SSL isn’t available throughout the entire site. Gmail and Facebook both offer these options. Given how easy it is to sniff data over wireless connections, SSL is important. Without it, the site is of no use to me.
@Jessanne I agree with you! That would be really useful.
I use Springpad almost every day. I love the ability to edit and sync from my iPhone, but there are notes that I would use it for but can’t due to the lack of password protection and SSL security. I would really like to see password protection at the Note level and at the folder (or note stack level), as well as SSL security others have mentioned. As it stands right now I have to use other tools to store some notes, because of the lack of security. I really want to dump the others, but I can’t until this is resolved in Springpad. With all of the issues going on about privacy and identity theft, etc. these days I would think this should be a priority for Springpad… At the very least, please give us password protection to login to sprinpad on the iphone.
I’m with mwgrl5… Brittni, when will synchronized sharing be available??
I would like to edit my account settings, but cannot do so from my iPhone app or the mobile website. I get a message stating that I must log in on a standard computer to access my account settings. However, the iPhone is the only Internet access I have. With other sites, typically there is an option to view a website in standard or mobile version, but I am not given this option w/ Springpad. I am automatically redirected to the mobile site, which prevents me from accessing my account..thus I’m going around in circles without solving my issue.
UGHHHH!!
I use Springpad for homeschooling my twins. I create a noteboook with each kid’s name with the lessons that are to be done that day. The problem is, since I have twins, I have to type everything twice, once in each kid’s notebook. I have tried doing it all in one notebook (i.e. Joe’s) and then adding each item, one-by-one, to the other’s notebook (Sam’s). But if I do that, anything that is checked off as done in one’s notebook gets checked off as done in the other’s notebook. I want to be able to create two notebooks, type the items in one and copy (add) them to the 2nd notebook so that they can do the lessons in the order they want and check them off as they’re done without it affecting the other’s notebook.
I’m still waiting for SSL!
I’d be happy to pay for it – it’s crazy you don’t secure the messaging to the application.
SSL = Security = trust.
As a Makepp Artist I made a folder for my modells. Photo, name, e-mail address, phone number and some notes. Everything is set to private.
Today I got a mail from one of my modells with a link of her file in springpad, and she asked me to delete her from there. She wrote her name to google and the second link was my private file about her. when I clicked to the link there was her personal file and a not, that this is a private file.
Unfortunatelly I can’t demonstrate it to you, because I deleted her file propmtly, as she requested. I just don’t understand how that can happen.:(
Simply an amazing app … I am amazed at the functionality. Someone at Springpad has been doing their homework.
Both my wife and I have Nooks (Tablet for me, Color for her). Could we share a grocery store “stuff”, just me and her? I guess the real question is can I limit the people who see what in my Friends Stuff? Maybe something where all of them could see, then some where I could choose which friends see what?
Congrats on a great app!
Thanks Devin,
I hate to be a dufus, but on my Nook, there’s nowhere I can get to Share. Let me rephrase it, on the Nook, is there a way I can share it with my wife?
First let me say Springpad is awesome. I use it a lot for saving articles. Especially recipes, its so easy to save them on the laptop and then access them on the iPad in the kitchen.
A few functions I think would make it better though. Someone already mentioned this but sharing with just one person, like a facebook connect instead of a twitter follow would be great. I want to share stuff with friends that I don’t want others seeing.
Some kind of keyboard control would be good too. Even if just using the arrows keys for scrolling through notebooks, that would make it easier when using a laptop. I realise that with a mouse plugged you can use the scroll wheel, but otherwise it’s fiddly to use the scroll bar at the side with a touch pad.
Finally, the ‘hide completed’ function doesn’t seem to work for Recipes. Would be great if it hid the recipes that have already been cooked, so it just shows the uncooked ones.
Many thanks, keep up the good work!
Devin said:
You can share items, checklist and notebooks with individuals by going to the full page view of the item, clicking Share then sending them the “Anyone with the link” link.
I can see how to do that with any individual item in a notebook. But how do you do it for an entire notebook? I don’t find a Share button that applies to an entire notebook.
Also I would like to require those who are going to be able to see my notebook to log in with a password I give them, which I can change later. If I just hand out a URL, anyone can send that URL to anyone else and before long the database has essentially become Public and there’s nothing I can do to regain control over its privacy.
>> in a few weeks we are rolling out new notebook collaboration features that make sharing more customizable.
Okay thanks Devin!
I’m really looking forward to sharing one of my notebooks with a select few from around the world. Making them password protected will also be vital.
Keep up the good work!
Is it now possible to share a list with one other person?
Ron, I tried using the “Anyone with the link” link to share a list but it did not work. What am I doing wrong? Thanks
Dennis
you need to allow collaboration and or an easier way for someone to find a specific (and dynamic) list from soneone else. For example I would love to be able to see in pseudo realtime a list that my wife has in her springpad account and has shared with me either publicly or privately. we tried the sharing thing both public and private but after i have added it to my account, if she updates it, I don’t see the updates. I even tried syncing my account and that didn’t work either. This would be awesome for shopping lists and a shared to-do list. Please let me know if and how we can make this work.
Thanks,
Jonathan
Devin, if you need a beta tester let me know =)
Hi.
I’ve read through the comments, but can’t seem to find definitive answers to these questions:
1. Can entire notebooks be made private/password-protected OR does SpringPad only allow for privacy-toggling of specific items within a notebook?
2. How to make contacts private or better not to save them in SpringPad?
I just found out about SpringPad today and it looks like a great tool. I am brainstorming ways to use it, but I want to make sure that it is secure so that I don’t compromise private information be it mine or someone else’s.
Thanks.
Hi Spring Pad Team – First off, let me say I have just tried your product after being a longtime Evernote user and am very impressed. I anticipate making a full switch in the near future. However I’m a little confused by your privacy policy/terms of service. In the Privacy Policy you use the defined term “Private Content” and incorporate by reference that definition from the TOS. However in the TOS, the term used is “Private User Submitted Content”. The term “Private Content” is neither used nor defined. Can you please clarify this for me? It’s important to me that my private content (however you define it) is mine and not facebook’s, errr I mean yours.
Thanks!
I still use Springpad but much less than before. Privacy is a concern and the https connection appears broken in Springpad. Furthermore, public and private are very limited options. Collaboration is missing in that you can’t share specific notes with selected users.
I thought you said it was coming in March…
I can’t wait! DO you have a launch date? Beta version?
Hi,
I am loving Springpad as I use it daily.
Only feature that I find is lacking is the setting of password for individual notebook.

Hi John – I cannot give a specific timeframe but we do plan to support https in the near future.
Richard – we’re working on those things!
Is there a way to save everything on my hard drive instead of on your server?
Cristina – Sorry, we do not have an export/backup service quite yet.
Thanks!
Craig
Hi Craig – unfortunately your suspicions are correct. The settings will only apply from now on.
Lee – the options above can be found in the web app on a computer browser at springpadit.com/springpad/#settings/sharing
As for individually controlling the privacy option on Android – go to the item you want to change, tap the menu button on your device, choose personalize, then you’ll see the share toggle.
Brandon, you cannot set default privacy by notebook, but you can set it by Type as mentioned above.
And, no, you cannot currently use bulk edit to mode. But that’s a great idea… We’ll look into adding it!
Kijar – We’ll look at that for the future!
Hi John – we’re looking into the possibility of collaborative sharing for a future feature.
Hi,
after various tests I saw that springpad is the best choice for me.
Randy – We don’t have a date yet for collaboration, but we do know that it’s important to you!
MACC – no way to do this now but we are considering it!
Hey Nick – Sorry to let you down. The register & login process is fully encrypted as are the mobile apps & extensions. We are working on making the web app encrypted now.
Is there a way for me to share a folder with just one person? I would like to share info with my business partner but don’t want to make the information public.
Amelia – we’re working on private sharing for later this fall!
April – sorry, no way to do this right now, other than creating a regular Note type, but it’s a great idea!
Thanks!
mwgrl5 – we’re working on it!
Jessanne – It’s on our list for the future!
I’m with mwgrl5… Brittni, when will synchronized sharing be available??
john – We’re planning to introduce private notebook collaboration around the end of January. Stay tuned!
UGHHHH!!
Hi Lindsay – Sorry about that! If you are unable access a computer, you can email your username to feedback@springpartners.com and we can make changes to your account settings for you
I use Springpad for homeschooling my twins.
Hi Mary – That is a good idea, and I can definitely see how it would be useful for you and others. Unfortunately, we do not have that capability right now, but it is something we are considering!
I’m still waiting for SSL!
I’d be happy to pay for it – it’s crazy you don’t secure the messaging to the application.
SSL = Security = trust.
I just don’t understand how that can happen.:(
Hi There – Thank you for reporting this, and I apologize for the trouble. Can you tell me how her information was stored in SP? Did you have it all in a note, or did you save her as a contact? Feel free to email me this info directly: dbramhall@springpartners.com We are looking into this and trying to recreate in the meantime!
You can share items, checklist and notebooks with individuals by going to the full page view of the item, clicking Share then sending them the “Anyone with the link” link. That way, you can keep the item (or list, etc) private and allow only certain people to view it. Coming next month, we are offering more sharing options for notebooks, including giving you the ability to invite multiple people to collaborate on notebook content, so hopefully you will be even happier when we roll that out!
Thanks Devin,
I hate to be a dufus, but on my Nook, there’s nowhere I can get to Share. Let me rephrase it, on the Nook, is there a way I can share it with my wife?
Hi Tim – You’ll need to go to the web app to share the notebook with your wife. However, as I mentioned, sharing notebooks will be a lot more useful after our next release, because she will be able to contribute to the notebook as well.
Devin said:

I can see how to do that with any individual item in a notebook. But how do you do it for an entire notebook? I don’t find a Share button that applies to an entire notebook.
Also I would like to require those who are going to be able to see my notebook to log in with a password I give them, which I can change later. If I just hand out a URL, anyone can send that URL to anyone else and before long the database has essentially become Public and there’s nothing I can do to regain control over its privacy.
Hi Ron – Sorry for the confusion. Right now you can share entire notebooks by making them public, but in a few weeks we are rolling out new notebook collaboration features that make sharing more customizable. Thanks for the input on password protected sharing – good idea!
>> in a few weeks we are rolling out new notebook collaboration features that make sharing more customizable.
Thanks
Dennis
Hi Dennis – Can you tell me what happened when you tried to share? Could the person you sent it to note view the item?
you need to allow collaboration and or an easier way for someone to find a specific (and dynamic) list from soneone else.
Thanks,
Jonathan
Good news, Jonathan: we’re adding a notebook share/collab feature in March
Devin, if you need a beta tester let me know =)
Hi Jonathan – Thanks, we appreciate it! Will let you know if we need help!
Thanks.
Hi Michele!
1. We do not offer password protected notebooks. They can either be made public or private. However, if you make a notebook public, you still have the option to choose which items in that notebook are also public. In other words, just because a notebook is public, doesn’t automatically mean all items inside it are public. You have to manually choose which items you want to make public.
2. Contacts default to private. However, you can change which items default to public/private in Settings > Sharing.
I hope that helps, but let me know if you have any more questions!
Thanks!
Hi Tpf – Sorry for the confusion! The bottom line is that your data is just that: your data. You can define whether each item you add is public or private, and it will stay that way. We don’t sell or access any of your private items – ever. One note is that if you save things like movies, books, and products – we will alert you of relevant news & price drops. But note that this is done systematically, not by manually accessing any of your private items. I hope that helps but feel free to email me if you have further questions: devin@springpartners.com.
I still use Springpad but much less than before. Privacy is a concern and the https connection appears broken in Springpad. Furthermore, public and private are very limited options. Collaboration is missing in that you can’t share specific notes with selected users.
Hi John – Collab is coming in April!
I thought you said it was coming in March…
Jonathan – That was the goal, but we decided to take our time and make sure we packed as many goodies in as we could for you guys!
I can’t wait! DO you have a launch date? Beta version?
Hi Jonathan – No launch date just yet, but it’s coming! Email feedback@springpartners.com for info on Beta
Hi,
I am loving Springpad as I use it daily.
Only feature that I find is lacking is the setting of password for individual notebook.
