Mobile Alerts and Reminders now available on Springpad Android App (v1.2)

Posted on September 22, 2010, by Jeff Chow | 9 Comments
Tech Updates.

We’ve just released Springpad 1.2 to the Android Market, including a new Alerts section, Reminders and much more.

View Alerts and Reminders
Springpad Alerts help you remember the information you save by showing you recent price drops, coupons and news, as well as reminders that you set yourself. Now access all of your alerts on your phone, too. Just tap on My Stuff, then Alerts to view all of your alerts and reminders.

Set Custom Reminders
Now you can easily set reminders on anything you save to Springpad. To set a reminder on something on your Android device, select the item, then choose Set Reminder from the Menu. Your reminders will be received in your phone’s status bar and can also be viewed with all of your other alerts in the Springpad app. Android 2.2 users will benefit from push notification support. Other Android users will receive alerts locally and will have to sync with Springpad servers to keep alerts up to date.

Send to Phone
While all of your Springpad information is automatically accessible on your phone and on the web, sometimes you need information on your phone in an instant. Send to Phone lets you easily find information up on the web and instantly push it to your phone. Only available for phones that support push notification (Android 2.2).

Add a Shortcut to the Home Screen
After our recent release of widgets, we are happy to introduce shortcuts to specific notes. To install a shortcut, hold down on the home screen until the options menu pops up. Select Shortcut, then Springpad, then choose the item you want to be able to reference with just one tap.

PIN Support
You can now set a PIN to safeguard your stuff without having to logout. You can set a custom PIN on the Settings screen.

Login with an account from another service
For new and existing users, you can now register and login to Springpad for Android using your account information from Google, Facebook, Yahoo or Twitter. You’ll see these options before logging into the app.

Create and Manage Lists
Create, delete and rename Lists right from your phone. To manage your Lists, open an item and tap Add to List in the menu.

Filter by Flagged
Now filter your stuff to only view the items that you mark as needing attention. Add a flag to any item under Personalize, then filter My Stuff to only view those items – Tap on My Stuff, then select My Flagged Stuff. You’ll also notice that the Large Widget allows you to choose to only display Flagged items.

Shortcuts to specific categories will be great too: for example:

    - All my today tasks
    - All the bookmarks flaged or with the ReadLater Tag

    Thank you!

I am standing here waiting for the subway working on some notes and realizing that I really need to be able to group them in different categories. So I google “springpad android lists” and lo and behold, I see a blog post from 4 hours ago about a new version of the app that has such support. Nice work.

Awesome update. Love the home screen shortcuts feature, filtering by flags, and creating lists. I’m still trying to get my head around how Tasks, Tasks Lists, and reminders work (it’s not super straightforward). I might just stop using two other android apps with all of this functionality.

the reminder is appearing as a notification on my android phone, which means it’s a visual indicator only

can it make the phone vibrate/ring?

  6. evozero says:

    thanx for the quick reply.

alas, my phone is on vibrate mode most of the day (i prefer to be discreet)

anyway, comparing it with astrid at the moment…
