Coming Soon to Springpad: The Board!

Tech Updates.

Hey guys, just wanted to give you a sneak peak something coming over the near horizon!

We are working on something called a Board, which will allow for visual organization with drag & drop. Every notebook(*) in Springpad will have its own board to help you get organized in a focused and fun way, available on the web app and the iPad app.

Check out some cool uses for the board:

Trip Planning

Wedding Planning

Meal Planning

Home Renovation Planning

Planning Out Your Day

Restaurant Tracking

(*) What’s a notebook, you ask? Well, more details will be coming soon, but I’ll give you a hint… We’re simplifying and unifying organization across our web app and our mobile apps. We’ve heard you loud and clear, and are excited about (re)introducing notebooks to Springpad!

Those maps look awesome! Can’t wait!!!

  2. Jenny says:

Springpad is taking a big step in organising our lives in a, well, more organised way! Hope it also incorporates selective sharing as it will make more sense in sharing boards like trip plans, wedding plans, etc with people who matter. Keep up the great work!

  3. Stephen says:

I like the boards. They look like a must have idea. Great for organising any project or anything where there are a number of different options. Maybe can also be used for research e.g. book or paper… congrats. Will like Springpad even more.

  4. JonR says:

Android App? Hoping that leaving it out was just a oversight in your posting.

  5. fitschu says:

Great to hear notebooks will be reintroduced. And the board really looks great. Hope there will be a way to use on the Android App as well.

  6. Steve says:

Yes, I hope you are going to develop further the mobile capabilities of Springpad, er… I’m an Android ;-)

  7. GS says:

    Very Cool!

    Already loving IT!

  8. Springpadviaevernote says:

This is a key step……..please use one note as an inspiration in developing that…..otherwise springpad is perfect. Former evernote user and as soon as this feature is live, looking to migrate to springpad.

  9. oliver says:

looks great! another android user voting for these capabilities rolling into the android app soonest. thanks!

  10. weusib333 says:

please make this a part of the android APP!!!

  11. katin says:

    Hey everyone!

Happy to see all of the interest regarding adding the board to the Android app! While the Android app will definitely be upgraded to include notebooks that will sync with the web, the board section will not be enabled like you see above.

We see the board as being most useful on tablets (like the iPad), as it includes laying out lots of elements in a visual way. Sorry to disappoint you!

  12. JonR says:

You must have missed all of the Android tablets that are on the way?

    - Galaxy Tab
    - ViewPad
    - Archos (announced 5 tablets running Android)
    - Hannspree
said tablets above all mentioned here: http://www.itworld.com/mobile-amp-wireless/119349/android-tablets-everywhere

  14. Jeff says:

I really like the look of this, as well as everything else your doing.

however, I’m just playing round the edges with springpad right now. I’m too scared to invest heavily in it without the possiblilty of me backing up my data.
You definitely wont get me using all of this in earnest until I know I can have my data, after all your asking me to invest a lot of time into said data.
Does anyone else used this same philosophy?

  15. Jeff says:

Oh, and #13. totally agree, there is quickly becoming a large array of tablets with Android to equate to the iPad.

  16. katin says:

Hey guys – totally agree on Android-based tablets. We definitely plan to have some cool features (including the board) for them. But, for this coming release (in November), the board will only be on the web and iPad – sorry!

  17. Tim Morrison says:

    Hey… Kristin
Will have my Android Sanding Galaxy South Tablet… presumably on November 5!
Look forward to Boards and Notebooks on that great Amoled screen!

  18. Tim Morrison says:

    Hmm sorry
    That’s Katin
    My bad!

  20. armando agostinho says:

    looks fantastic , can’t wait !!!!!!

  21. Jon says:

Quite excited about the addition of notebooks/boards.

Quick question. Will the size of a board be expandable? I foresee the visual layout being incredibly useful for large projects that would potentially outgrow the size of the boards in the examples above. Just a suggestion if that’s not going to be an initial feature.

Another longer term feature request for you to consider. Providing a way to add lines/arrows between items on the board would make the board into a wonderful mind mapping application.

Thanks for all your hard work!

  22. April says:

    Can’t wait!
I also agree with the user about having a way to backup our data.

  23. James says:

Am with Jeff (#14) backup/ export is key for me. Am currently using catch and astrid after using springpad for a bit…miss having it all in one place with types like products and recipes etc.

Interchanging types is important too (from task to checklist to product etc.)

And yeah-looking like that on an Android phone would be cool!

Having said all that the boards do look great!

Good to hear the organising is being simplified…will keep watching!

  24. Zuleika says:

Oh wow I can’t wait for the new features!! The board will help a lot with my designing and for planning meals. I have an android phone, and am loving using springpad on it so far. Thanks so much!! :-)

  25. Richard Posey says:

Delighted to see that your product is developing so rapidly. Exciting stuff.

Still, I wish I could just SORT my grocery list alphabetically. Better yet, if there were an additional sortable field, so that I could set it up for sorting by aisle, that would help more.

I have a base grocery list and check the items that I need. I uncheck them while in the store. I have to do a lot of scrolling up and down the list as things stand now. I tried using the same info in a Google spreadsheet viewed on my Motorola Droid, and it was just too sluggish and clunky.

    Keep up the good work!

  29. mike says:

totally agree with Jon(#21), an option to add lines/arrows and the board would be awesome

  30. tracy says:

Please tell me its available for android! Or is this

just for computers and not phones…

  31. Sue says:

So excited for “The Board”!! When can I expect to be using it?

  32. Patty says:

Wow…today is the first time that I noticed The Board on my Springpad! I’ve used Springpad off & on for a long time but find I am using it more and more with all these new features. Now I am excited to figure out how to use The Board.

  33. wooichin says:

I using Chrome Springpad, but I did not see “Board” on it! Need help.

  34. wooichin says:

    Katin – Thanks a lot.

  35. Dmitry says:

Hi. Added a restaurant and a business objects (with addresses which are shown inside each item correctly). But cant see them on the map on the board. What I’m doing wrong? :)
    Dmitry

  36. SilentThunderStorm says:

First off, would like to thank you guys for showing some well deserved Chrome love. Looking beautiful… but having a slight issue… Using the latest version of Chrome on Ubuntu, and none of the DND stuff seems to work.

Should I assume that Ubuntu support is not complete, yet?

Will continue to use this beautiful app, just looking forward to being able to drag and drop items to arrange my boards!

  37. Devon says:

I see that I am not the only Android tablet user that would love to see the board implemented for Andoid (I have a transformer running Honeycomb 3.2.1). Any update on timelines for feature being available on Android?

  38. Neil says:

what happened to the Board? I was using it and then it was gone. did you guys do away with it?

  39. Neil says:

Nevermind about the Board, just found it. But I agree with Devon about getting it for the android platform

  40. I am excited about the Board…any idea when it will be functional? Exactly what my ADHD kid needs! a visual of all his school assignments is what I am thinking of…wow what a possibility for Education use all age groups!

  41. liz says:

Will you be implementing the Board for the Nook tablet anytime soon?

    • katin says:

Liz – We are considering adding the board to the Android app (which is what runs on the Nook Color). It’s not yet scheduled, though. Sorry to make you wait!

  42. Liz says:

Thanks Katin for the quick response. I will keep my fingers crossed. Hope you guys decide to go on “Board” with it soon for the Nook Tablet! I just discovered this app and I’m loving it! I do a lot of my organizing in bed at night while the kids are asleep, and prefer the Nook tablet for doodling and handling as oppose to a laptop/netbook. Thanks for the consideration!

  43. @kstagg says:

I know it’s an EXTREME longshot, but webOS has nowhere near anything like this and this would be awesome to have on the TouchPad (the 2nd best selling tablet in the U.S.). :)

OK, OK, I know it was a longshot, but at least I could access it on the web by bookmarking it. There are plans for that, correct?

Do you have a round-about date (February – March)? Spring?

    You’re biggest fan. Truly – that’s me.

    Sincrely,
    Kevin

  44. Matthew says:

Any chance this will be available on the Android Tablets?

  45. Michelle says:

I would really love this to be synced with my android! I like the idea but its hard when I can only use my computer and not see it on my phone.

  46. Sven says:

Its 2012 and still I cant share the board with friends. Why can’t I?

  47. Lisa-Marie says:

What happened to this BOARD??? I want it BACK!!
