Tech Updates.

Updates to Springpad: Save via Email, RSS/iCal Feeds and API Access!

Today we’re releasing a bundle of new features focused on making your Springpad data more accessible. This update gives you improved email-in features, RSS and iCal feeds of your data, local data backup, and lots more… Log in now and check it out!

Create Anything by Email
Now when you send an email to springit@springpadit.com, you can save any type of item, attach tags and choose which notebooks you’d like to file it into. And we’ll use the logic included in our web clipper to automatically pull in other useful details, like recipe ingredients, movie release dates, and much more!

Create notes, tasks, bookmarks, recipes, products, books, and more! (details)

In addition to forwarding in emails that you’d like to save, this is a great way to add things to Springpad from your mobile browser. So the next time you come across something that you want to save when surfing the web on your iPhone, just forward the link to Springpad!

RSS and iCal Feeds
Now you can create a feed of your data and view it outside of Springpad.

A few great ways to use this include sending your events, alarms & tasks to your calendar, publishing a feed of your recipes or books to your blog, or sending a list of your Springpad bookmarks to your favorite reader so you can check them out later. (learn more)

Save a Backup of Your Springpad Data
We’ve added a utility to Springpad that allows you to export and download an HTML file of all of your Springpad data. You’ll find the option to create a backup in the Settings section of your account at Springpadit.com, under Services.

Springpad API Released!
We’re releasing our Springpad API, which will allow developers to create other applications that interface with Springpad. We see a lot of power in structured data and are excited to see what creative solutions can be built around the Springpad platform. (What’s an API?)

Other improvements and Bug Fixes:

  • Quicker Clipping with the Chrome Extension: We’ve moved the clip button to the top-level of the Chrome Browser Extension, allowing you to save things from the web with one fewer click!
  • Auto-Save Your Notes: No longer worry that you’ll lose your work if you forget to hit save, or if your internet connection suddenly drops. (Implemented on web app only)
  • New Settings Page with Services & Resources: Find out all that you need to know from the new Settings screens.
  • UI Speed Improvements: You should notice some new pep when creating new notes in the web app!
  • Goodbye Apps: We stopped supporting apps a few months ago last Fall, and now apps.springpadit.com is no longer accessible.
  • Re-add things you’ve deleted before:  We’ve fixed the bug that prevented you from re-adding items that you had previously added and deleted.
  • Sync Improvements: We’ve made multiple server-side sync improvements that will help resolve sync issues on the Android app & iOS apps.
  • Fix Reminder Dates on Android App: This update will make task reminders set on the Android app show up on the correct date.

Very nice, another great update from the best app! I loved the backup feature, is this a glimpse of an upcoming offline app soon? :)
I’m still keeping my hopes up!

  2. Lisa says:

Thank you Thank you! The new clip button in the Chrome extension is what I was needing :)

  5. monty says:

When will you have rich text formatting on Android with background color for text, and the ability to change the background color of the entire note.

  6. Dan says:

the calendar feed would be really useful but I am getting a
“Feed Processing Error” from google, it attempts to add the calendar and then comes back 5 mins later saying failed to add the feed. tried this for all items and for tasks specifically but same problem

  7. Mark Hewitt says:

Nice work guys! It’s a little detail but I love that you moved the clip button in the chrome extension, something I raised in the comments when you moved it into the menu (not that I’m taking credit for the idea, of course ;) )

  8. Ozgur Akan says:

When I send an email to create a task, if I have to convert mail to text first. Otherwise, it looks terrible on the android application (or when I try to edit that task on web)

  9. Mike says:

Cool, would be great if you could add private sharing for friends. Springpad would be an awesome collaborating tool.

  10. Omar says:

YEAH! Finally an API !! Thanks springpad (:!!

  11. Rudy says:

great stuff but please update the editor to include some rich text feature please!!!

  12. Chris Q says:

    Greetings,

I like the new feed, however it seems to set iCal “due dates” at midnight. This is not entirely useful as I easily overlook them!

Perhaps I’ve missed a setting somewhere, and I will be looking. Still, it would be very helpful to be able to clearly set that when setting the deadline.

  13. Kumar S says:

Nice improvements…. I wish you can bring out a desktop/offline version of SpringPad now…. or at least the ones using your API do…. offline access is the only reason I’m still stuck with Evernote…. hope you are listening….

  14. Kumar S says:

    Good to know that :)

  15. nlag says:

Can I turn off the function of ‘RSS and iCal Feeds’?
I want to keep all information in the private condition.

    • katin says:

The RSS/iCal feeds cannot be disabled, but if you are concerned that someone has access to them & you would like to revoke that access, go to Settings > Services & reset the key.

  16. sue says:

I cannot scroll on Springpad on my Android 2.2 Elocity a7 Tablet. It works great on my PC and my Blackberry. Everything shows up on my tablet
but I can’t scroll to see it.

  17. stat30fbliss says:

Really looking forward to integrating the Springpad API. Happy Days!

  18. Antti says:

The backup function does not work. I click on “Create Backup” and the button turns to grey. Nothing happens.

  19. yaser says:

Is there anyway to important Google Calendar into SpringPad as well?

  20. Patrick says:

Any update on getting scrolling in the android app? It’s a bit of a pain to have to click on recipe directions to see all of them. On a tablet, there seems to be a lot of extra space that isn’t being used that could be filled with directions instead truncated directions with the “…” Thanks, I still think it’s a great product and the attention to support requests and questions is great.

    • Devin says:

Hi Patrick – It’s going to look a little different, but we haven’t completely changed the way this works just yet. You’ll be able to scroll in edit mode, but recipe will still be truncated. Sorry about that!

  21. william says:

Can you add more formatting options? I want to create outlines but the indented or tab function doesn’t work like one would expect.
