How to Save Recipes to Springpad from any Website

When you find recipes online, you may not know the best way to save them for later. Rather than print, bookmark, or email the recipes, save them to Springpad! Then, you’ll be able to access them from wherever you are, on the web, on your phone or on your tablet.

When you save a recipe to Springpad, we automatically add a photo, pull the ingredient list and instructions and provide a link back to the original source. And, you can always edit the recipe to suit your specific needs, or attach notes to remind yourself about certain techniques.  Even make your recipes public and share them with your friends!

How to save a recipe to Springpad:

Springpad recognizes that a specific site is a recipe site based on micro-formats embedded by the authors and also based on our own database of sites. If you come across a site that you think we’re mis-categorizing, drop us a note at feedback@springpartners.com.

Can’t get it to work with http://cookeatshare.com/ — all others recipe sites that I’ve tried are saved as recipes.

  2. Martin says:

    Hi guys,

Any chance of taking a look at chow.com for a recipe site to Spring?

    Thanks

  3. Morgan says:

How do I make my Spring Pad show the pictures instead of the note or bookmark? Also, how did you get the different icon for your recipes? (the Little chef hat)

    • brittni says:

Morgan – On the web app if you go to one of your notes and click Add a Note next to News and Notes you can add an image attachment, that will become the note’s thumbnail.

Recipe note types get the chef’s hat. Follow the blog instructions for adding Recipe types. You can also choose the + then add by type, recipe.

I absolutely love being able to save my recipes (especially ones I find and want to try). Using tags and being able to search my growing collection is really great!

  5. Amy says:

Any chance of taking a look at mr. food.com for a recipe site to Spring?

    Thanks

  6. Michele says:

Thanks for including http://www.publicradio.org/columns/splendid-table/recipes/ — one of my favorite recipe sites.

Please add these sites too, so I don’t have to manually enter recipes:
    http://www.eatingwell.com
    http://www.gourmet.com/
    http://www.foodandwine.com

  7. Rachel says:

Could you please include a list of recipes sites that are automatically recognized by Springpad (like Food Network)? Thanks!

  8. daena says:

oh this is JUST too cool! Love it!

  9. Roderic Rinehart says:

Absolutely loving Springpad for everything – information dump, to-do lists, recipes, shopping lists. Amazing.

I have a few more sites that are excellent sources of recipes:

http://www.cookingforengineers.com/ [This is a seriously interesting site. It is exactly what the website name portends, and there isn't any other site quite like it.]
http://www.cookingchanneltv.com/ [You already have Food Network and Food.com, might as well as their third sister site.]

Then, there are three sites that are very similar in that they offer a very visual way to explore user-submitted and blogged recipes from around the net:
    http://www.tastespotting.com/
    http://www.tablespoon.com/
    http://foodgawker.com/

  10. Dieter S. says:

Hi there, are there any german recipe sites that work with the clipper?
I am not able to find any.

    br, D.

  11. Darlene says:

This is wonderful! I’ve just been copying recipes I find and putting them into a Word document. But being able to add tags and everything else is just perfect!

  12. Achim says:

    Hi,

I just tried the German site “http://www.kuechengoetter.de” and I can spring it ok. Only problem though – the German “Umlaute” (äöü) are not diplayed properly and the photo on the site is not included into the springed recipe – any way to solve this?

    Best
    achim

    • brittni says:

Hi Achim – we’ll be fixing the problem with the characters soon. The reason the photo doesn’t come through is because the site isn’t formatting the image for us to grab. We’re using microformats now and are reading pages in a pretty specific way.

  13. Ben says:

I love the idea of this but can’t get bbc food to work :-(

When I check it on my phone it just appears as a link not the pic or recipe details.

Am I doing something wrong? X

  14. Rusty says:

I can’t see how this works!

    Plus add this one? http://www.gourmettraveller.com.au/*

  15. Rachel says:

Please add tastykitchen.com and thepioneerwoman.com. They’re both part Thanks!

  16. Rachel says:

    Please add http://mybakingaddiction.com and http://joythebaker.com

Also, it would be create if when I click Add a Recipe and it comes up as a bookmark only if the URL could be pulled over and included when I switch it over to recipe format.

  17. kelly g says:

Can i use this feature with my nook color? If so, then how?

    • katin says:

Kelly – If you nook supports sharing, follow the Android instructions. Or, you can always follow the iPhone instructions & send to Springpad via email from any site.

  18. Achim says:

    Hi all,

it’s a while now that I told you about the problem of the German Umlaute (äöü etc) on the site of http://www.kuechengoetter.de.
It looks as if you fixed the problem in the ingredients part of the recipe but in the directions part there are still hieroglyphics instead of Umlaute :-)
Btw: I solved the issue about the image inside the recipe by copying the image and insert it as an addon to the recipe and this works quite well apart from being quite laborious. So if you are looking into fixing the Umlaute issue maybe you got the time to look into the picture problem as well.
    Thank you so much

  19. Patrick says:

Any update on adding eatingwell.com and chow.com to the clipper? These still don’t get pulled in as anything more than a bookmark. Great app, thanks!

    • Devin says:

Hi Patrick – Chow.com works for me, but hear you on Eatingwell. We are working on some major updates right now, so don’t have info on this site at the moment, but it’s def on the list of sites that need to be optimized for the clipper :)

  20. Patrick says:

Devin, I’ve tried a few Chow.com recipes and it pulls in the picture, source, and directions, but not the ingredients. Thanks. Can’t wait for the updates. I am really hoping for scrolling in the adroid app.

  21. Patrick says:

Is Saveur.com on the list to add to the clipper? Thanks.

  22. David says:

please add http://www.opensourcefood.com and http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes if not on. I’m having trouble with them.

  23. Patrick Del Rosario says:
