Springpad seriously rocks and I’m WAY too addicted to it. – Caitlin Tremblay
Some of the highlights of this notebook include:
I’m With You, Red Hot Chili Peppers – The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ new album, I’m With You, “sees the band refreshed, renewed, once again working with producer Rick Rubin… It expands the same combination of funk and finesse, intensity and tenderness that’s made the Peppers sine qua non in modern rock, but with a new set of life experiences from the intervening years that coalesced into a dynamically fresh start.” Playing at Bonnaroo on Saturday, June 9 at 10pm.
Torches, Foster the People - “Torches, the highly anticipated debut album by Foster The People, is the soundtrack for an eternal summer. … Torches delivers on both the promise of their breakthrough chart-topping single Pumped Up Kicks and the promise of this young band out of Los Angeles.” Playing at Bonnaroo on Friday, June 8 at 8:45pm.
Boys & Girls, Alabama Shakes – “From the heart-rending title song to such stomps as Rise to the Sun, [Boys & Girls] demonstrates the sense of groove and space the band learned from their idols, along with a blistering force and emotion that simply can’t be learned.” Playing at Bonnaroo on Thursday, June 7 at 11:30pm.
Metals, Feist – “Metals’ songs range from low rumbling and moody ambiences to brutal and intense, as if it sonically maps the fog rolling in and the resulting cracking of thunder. ‘There’s a lot more chaos and movement and noise than I’ve had before,’ Feist says.” Playing at Bonnaroo on Friday, June 8 at 6:15pm.
Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites, Skrillex – “Describing his current sound as ‘a mix of dubstep, electro and glitch all thrown together,’ new Skrillex release Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites reflects all of the above and beyond.” Playing at Bonnaroo on Sunday, June 10 at 1:30am.
Mignonette, The Avett Brothers – “The trio plays old-time, foot stompin’, front and back porch mountain music with shades of country and a rock-n-roll attitude. … Their energy, emotion and artistry are captured on their seminal album effort, Mignonette, the newest recording to be released July 13th.”
Relax, Das Racist – “Pop-rap experimentalists Das Racist, like Atlanta-based hip hop group Tag Team, are ‘back again,’ riding the wave of success garnered from the two free mixtapes they released in 2010, with their sprawling, visionary cyberdelic, Black Eyed Peas-ian epic tone poem of a debut album, RELAX.”
