Release Notes: Springpad Android App – v3.2.1

Last week we released a major update to the Springpad Android App, and since then we’ve received a bunch of feedback. Today we’re releasing a small update to address some of the issues that we heard from you. Get the update now!

Updated the app icon… again!
With version 3.2, we updated the Android app homescreen icon to be more inline with our apps on other devices, but we neglected to make the update on the widgets.  Now we have made yet another tweak so it is more consistent with our “notebook” emphasis, and we implemented it across all parts of the app (including widgets and intent sharing).

Removed “Retrieve Running Apps” permission
We added this permission in the last update so we could better understand how frequently users as a whole are launching the app, in order to discover ways we can improve the app’s usability. After hearing from you, loud and clear, that you are not happy with this new permission, we removed it as part of version 3.2.1.

Reduced the amount of memory that the app uses
In version 3.2 we added a new pre-signup tour of the app to encourage new users to register for accounts after they download Springpad. These tour screens included many images, which made the app take up more memory on your device.  In this update, we scaled down the images to reduce the app size from 12mb to approximately 3 to 4mb.

  1. I have Springpad app in Nook Color AND on NC with N2A micro SD Card with Android 2.3 Gingerbread system. I tried to “get” the update using my device. My Springpad button just opens directly on my notebooks. There is no way to move to Springpad.com on my browser. I went to Springpad.com on the android browser, but there was no way to sign in or move to “My Notebooks”.

My Springpad button on the device brings me to My Notebooks, but when I type http://springpad.com/#!/sg245 into the device browser, I cannot connect to my Springpad account. I go to Springpad’s home page with no sign in.

I hope your update will automatically download to my device because there appears to be no way to “GET the update on my NC with N2A card unless I remove the app and download it again.

Unfortunately, this update caused a lot of trouble to Android 2.1 users. After installing the update, Springpad Android app get a Force Close right after opening the app. There are a lot of comments on Google Market regarding to this issue.

It seems that there is no automatic crash report engine in Springpad to give instant feedback on issues occurred on client.
