Common Questions

A Spring is any one of the following 18 types:
Alarm, Book, Bookmark/link, Checklist, Contact, Event, File, Movie, Music, Note, Photo, Place, Product, Recipe, Task, TV Show, Video, Wine

If you receive an invalid username/password, click on the Forgot Password link on the login page to reset.

If you registered for Springpad using Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo, or Gmail Open ID, click on the corresponding icon and enter the username/password you use to login to that app.

If you do not remember your username, and you are logged into the web or a mobile device, go to Settings to find it. If you are not logged in, send an email to feedback@springpad.com and include all possible usernames/emails you might have used to sign-up.

Click Here from your computer's web browser, then enter the email address you used to sign-up for Springpad to reset your password. If you registered for Springpad using Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo, or Gmail Open ID, click on the corresponding icon and login using that app's username/password.

To find your friends from Facebook and Twitter who are already on Springpad, go to the Notebooks page and move the slider to Me + Following to reveal a pop-up with instructions for how to link these services and find your friends on Springpad. Or you can scroll down to Followed Notebooks and click on Find Friends then the Follow Friends tab.

To follow a user, simply go to their profile at springpad.com/USERNAME and click Follow All at the top of their list of notebooks. If you only want to follow specific notebooks, just hover over the one you want and click the Follow button.

If you're not sure who to follow and want to search for people and notebooks based on your interests, just visit our Explore page to find lots of suggestions from the Springpad community.

To unfollow a user, follow the same instructions as above and click the same buttons to unfollow their profile and/or notebooks.

We do not support offline access on the web app right now. However, you can access your stuff offline on the Android/iOS apps. Make sure the mobile app has fully synced, then you should be able to view all your stuff with the exception of comments and images. You can also manually add new items (like notes, tasks, etc) manually, but you cannot search for new stuff to add on the Search page.

Make sure that you sync as soon as you are connected to the internet, because any changes that you made could be lost if they have not been saved to our web servers.

You can save an HTML file of all of your Springpad data to your computer by logging in at Springpad.com and clicking on Settings, then Services to find your backup options. The backup is just for your own personal use. We have not yet built a way to take that HTML file and import it back into Springpad or any other service.

We don’t have a export feature at this time.

First, check to see if you have pop-ups blocked. Then try backing up in another browser. If you are still getting an error, send an email with your userame to feedback@springpad.com.

We secure all password authentication via https protocol (register & login). All springpad account passwords are stored in an encrypted format within our data storage, so even Springpad employees don’t know your account passwords.

We secure the platform itself using industry standard best practices. As for fully-encrypting Springpad, we are considering offering this in the future.

Account Maintenance

If you use Android or the web browser, log in at Springpad.com from a computer browser. Click on Settings to change your email address or username. If you change your email address you will receive a confirmation email with a link that you must click on to complete the change.

If you're using the iOS app, launch Springpad and go to Settings.

You can change your profile picture on the web and iOS devices. This feature is not yet available on Android.

Web: Click on your profile picture at the top right of the app and select Settings. There you will see the option to change your profile picture.

iOS: Tap Settings in the left menu, scroll down to Account and tap Profile Photo.

If you do not want anyone to see the things you save in Springpad, you can either leave them unfiled or file them into private notebooks. Users will still see your username and any information you populated in the About Me section of Account Details. To check what other users can see, log out and view your profile at springpad.com/USERNAME.

Right now you can't officially combine two accounts in Springpad. However, if you created two accounts in error, you can use our notebook collaboration feature to share items from one account to another. To do this, invite the account you want to keep to all the notebooks in the account you want to delete. Next, accept the invitations and then you can delete the account you no longer want.

To delete your account, login to Springpad.com from your computer's web browser, click on your profile picture at the top right and select Settings. There you will find the option to delete your account.

Web

First, check Springpad on Twitter or Facebook to see if there is known downtime. If not, try the troubleshooting steps below:

1. Clear your browser cache and restart your browser
2. Check to see if you are behind a firewall
3. Do you have extensions installed in your browser? If so, disable all, refresh your browser. If that works, you’ll need to enable the extensions one-by-one to find the culprit.

Still getting an error, email feedback@springpad.com.

Everything you add to Springpad is private until you put it into a public notebook. So, if you clip something from the web, email it into springpad or add from within the app and do not assign it to a notebook, it will be private.

Similarly, if you add items into a private notebook, they will all be private.

If you add one item to 2 notebooks and one of the notebooks is public, then that item will be public.

To manage your notebook privacy settings, open the notebook and click on Settings at the bottom of the left menu. In the General tab you'll see the option to change the notebook's privacy.

Yes! To share something from a private notebook, open it up and click the share button at the top right of the item. To share a notebook, click 'Share Notebook' in the About tab on the left. This will generate a link to that item or notebook and/or allow you to share it via FB/Twitter.

If you decide that you no longer want anyone to have that private link, it can be regenerated or deleted at any time by revisiting the share menu for the notebook or item.

You can also invite other people to collaborate on any of your notebooks: click the + icon under the About tab.  Invite others by using their email or their Springpad username. Collaborators will be able to see all the notes in the notebook, edit them and add new notes.

More info on sharing.

There is currently not a limit on the number of files you upload or on how many notes you can save to Springpad, however, each file must be less than 25MB.

Sure do! Check out our developer site.

We no longer support the features in our old browser extensions in Chrome and Firefox. It’s our priority to provide good support for any app or extension that we give to you, and it has become apparent that we were not doing that with out older extensions. Being a small team with multiple apps, we must focus our efforts on making our core platforms (Springpad.com and the mobile apps) the best that they can be.
